Phi Delta Kappa Local Chapter Donates Books to WOCCISD Read and Roll Bus Program

Epsilon Lambda Chapter of the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc. donated boxes of books to the WOCCISD Read and Roll Bus book campaign. The program works in conjunction with the WOCCISD Child Nutrition Department to provide meals and reading opportunities to students during the summer months.

Dr. Alicia Sigee, Director of Student Services, is the director of the program and looks forward to sharing the books this summer.

The Read and Roll Bus is scheduled for June 14-30 and July 6-23 on Tuesdays at Ridgemont Park and on Thursdays at Navy Park. Lunch is provided.

 

Art Quest @ Home Returns to Stark Museum of Art

Designed for students entering 1st – 6th grades, Art Quest @ Home gives children the opportunity to create meaningful art from the comfort and safety of their own home. Each FREE camp session includes a kit of supplies, easy-to-follow instructions, and access to online content including video demonstrations.

Limited kits are available per session and are reserved on a first-come, first-served basis. Online registration begins on Wednesday, May 26th at 9:00 a.m.

All camp kits are free of charge thanks to the generous support of the Nelda C. and H.J. Lutcher Stark Foundation.

Depot Day Scheduled for June 5

NOTE: Due to inclement weather, this event has been postponed to Oct. 2.

Mark your calendars and grab your kiddos for some fun at the Orange Train Depot for Depot Day 2021. Scheduled for June 5, 2021, from 10 AM – 2 PM at the Orange Train Depot at 1210 Green Avenue in Orange, Depot Days will feature a kiddie train, bouncy house, petting zoo, balloon artist, pony rides, and drawings for a girl’s and a boy’s bicycle.

Depot Day, the annual fundraiser sponsored by the Friends of the Orange Depot traditionally held on the first Saturday in May, was postponed because of rain.

Food and drink will also be available, and entertainment will be provided by The Orange Community Players and The Orange Blossom Dancers.

Admission is free, but tickets are required for the attractions. Tickets are $1 or 6 for $5.

Shootout on the Sabine Canceled

The Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau has regretfully made the decision to cancel Shootout on the Sabine, Zydeco concert, and fireworks show scheduled for May 22 and 23.

They feel that it is in the best interest and safety of the DSRA racers to cancel this event due to unfavorable weather conditions and water levels at the Sabine River.

Entertainment Announced for Shootout on the Sabine

The Orange Convention and Visitor’s Bureau has announced the entertainment for the 2021 Shootout on the Sabine on May 22 at the Riverside Pavilion beginning at 7 pm. Grammy-nominated Zydeco innovator Corey Ledet will be performing. Corey Ledet is a world traveler, having performed in 15 countries. He has done numerous tours across North America, including countless festivals, private parties, major company corporate events, and weddings. In 2012, he was nominated for a Grammy Award for his “Nothin’ But the Best” album.

City of Orange Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Deep South Racing Association (DSRA) are the co-sponsors of the 7th Annual Shootout on the Sabine. This event features drag boat racing that will be held May 22-23, 2021, from 11 A.M. to 6 P.M. at the City of Orange Boat Ramp, located at 1000 Simmons Drive.

Shootout on the Sabine includes 50 to 60 racers from Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina. Depending on the classification, speeds of more than 100 mph are possible and are sure to entertain those of all ages. Concessions and children’s activities will be on-site for all to enjoy. There will be no charge to attend this family-friendly event.

A spectacular firework display will immediately follow the show.
