Orange County, already boasting a high number of dollar stores compared to neighboring Jefferson and Hardin counties, is witnessing another retail casualty. The Family Dollar store at Northway Shopping Center is set to close its doors after five years of operation.
The announcement was accompanied by a storewide sale, initially offering a 30% discount on all items. This discount will soon increase to 50% as the closing date approaches around August 24. This closure follows the recent shutdown of another Family Dollar store in the 1300 block of 16th Street just two months ago.
In March, Dollar Tree, the parent company of Family Dollar, revealed plans to close approximately 600 locations nationwide this year. Despite these closures, employees at the Family Dollar store on Strickland have indicated that the Pinehurst location is expected to remain operational.
The retail landscape in Orange County continues to evolve as national chains adjust their strategies and footprint in the area.
