Texas Governor Greg Abbott has ordered all state parks and state historical sites temporarily closed as of 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, 2020. Abbott says it’s part of an effort in response to the spread of Coronavirus to “strengthen social distancing practices and prevent gatherings of large groups of people”.
Local facilities frequented by SETX residents include Martin Dies, Jr. State Park at Dam B outside of Jasper, Village Creek State Park at Lumberton and Sea Rim State Park in Sabine Pass.
Many people from the Golden Triangle and the Houston area have been camping at the State Park at Dam B, along with facilities at both Lake Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend Reservoir as they try to escape the spread of Coronavirus in the larger metropolitan areas.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has also closed all local parks on nearby Lake Sam Rayburn until further notice. However, many boat ramps outside the parks remain open. They include Public Boat Ramp, RR-255, Mill Creek, Hanks Creek, Etoile, Ralph MacAllister, and Monterrey.
