Orange County Residents No Longer Need to Travel for Hospital Care

in Business

After years of anticipation and planning, the Christus Southeast Texas Health System officially unveiled its new facility, Christus Hospital – Orange, marking a significant milestone in healthcare availability for the residents of Orange, Texas. The journey began four years ago when community leaders and medical staff came together to envision a hospital service that would cater to local needs. They approached Christus Southeast Texas Health System to be the hospital component of their development, setting the stage for a collaboration that would bring comprehensive healthcare closer to home for many.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony on Tuesday, January 30, 2024, heralded the beginning of a new era for healthcare in Orange, with the hospital set to open its doors for 24/7 emergency services from 8 a.m. Thursday. Located on the 20-acre Gisela Houseman Medical Campus at 6901 Medical Center Dr. Suite 100, the state-of-the-art facility was developed in collaboration with NexCore, a third-party developer, and features emergency services, an extended stay unit, full diagnostic imaging, lab services, and a dedicated women’s center.

CHRISTUS representatives and Gisela Houseman were joined by Mayor Larry Spears Jr., Dr. Marty Rutledge, NexCore, Senator Robert Nichols, Speaker of the House Dade Phelan, Orange County Judge Gothia, representatives from the City of Orange and the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce, local organizations, and members of the community for the event. Mayor Spears spoke at the ceremony, stating “For those who may not understand the significance of this project, the significance of this hospital, this is an answered prayer. We’ve been able to establish things that have made the community better.so for all of the people of the city of Orange, for Orange County, and Southwest Louisiana, CHRISTUS is here. They are here and we are very thankful!”

“We’re excited about what the center brings in terms of expanding hospital services to Orange and surrounding communities,” Christus Southeast Texas Health System Chief Operating Officer Kevin Parsley added, highlighting the comprehensive care options now available locally. The hospital boasts 10 exam rooms, two triage assessment rooms, two extended stay beds, and advanced imaging services, including 3D mammography and CT scanning, all aimed at ensuring residents do not need to travel far for quality healthcare.

The addition of the Christus Hospital – Orange is also a boon for local employment, adding approximately 80 jobs to the community, including both staff members and contract workers.

Looking ahead, Parsley hinted at future growth, with plans to expand services as community needs evolve. “There’s a 20-acre campus that Ms. Houseman graciously donated to this development,” he noted, explaining that the current facility occupies about 7 acres. “We’ve talked about how we grow with the community, whether it’s surgical services or other services we’d love to be able to offer them down the road as the community and the market demands.”
