Bridge City City Council Declares Town the “Corndog Capital of Texas”
In a move celebrating local flavor and tradition, the Bridge City City Council voted on February 4, 2025, to officially declare the city the “Corndog Capital of Texas.”
The decision surprised longtime resident John Rowlett, owner of The Bridge City Corndog Stand, a beloved local business serving golden, crispy corndogs since 1991.
Rowlett said he was completely surprised by the unexpected honor.
Now that the resolution has passed, Bridge City aims to embrace its new title and draw attention to its deep-fried delicacy. This could potentially boost tourism and put local businesses like Rowlett’s on the map.
“I mean, it’s well known as the anchor of Rainbow Bridge. Now we can be the Corndog Capital of Texas, too!” Rowlett said enthusiastically.
Known for his signature batter and deep-fried perfection, Rowlett takes pride in the craft of corndog making.
“It is a special batter; it’s hotdogs on a stick. You tip it in the corndog batter—there’s a special motion you have to learn to keep the batter on the hotdog. But then you deep fry it,” Rowlett explained. “Top it with whatever you like! Mayonnaise or mustard or ketchup, or all three. Some people like to put Tony’s on it!”
Located at 795 Texas Ave. in the Walmart parking lot, the Bridge City Corndog Stand has been a community staple for years. It draws loyal customers who appreciate the crispy, golden-brown treats.
With this new designation, Bridge City is set to become a must-visit destination for corndog lovers across Texas. Whether you’re a longtime fan or a first-time visitor, there’s never been a better time to grab a bite and celebrate this deep-fried tradition.
