After more than a decade of dedicated leadership, West Orange-Cove Consolidated Independent School District (WOCCISD) Superintendent Dr. Rickie Harris has announced his retirement, effective December 31, 2025.
The West Orange-Cove CISD Board of Trustees issued a heartfelt statement recognizing Dr. Harris’ impact on the district and his unwavering commitment to education.
“He is a champion of education and an inspiration to all he comes in contact with within the community. Truly, Dr. Harris will be missed, and his legacy of creating a ‘master plan of education’ in WOCCISD will continue for generations to come,“ the Board stated.
With a 28-year career in education, Dr. Harris has left a lasting mark as a superintendent and mentor, leader, and advocate for students. Reflecting on his career, Dr. Harris shared personal milestones, from teaching his son to read during 50-mile commutes to his first principal position to escorting his daughter at her West Orange-Stark High School homecoming court.
“Words cannot express the gratitude and appreciation I have in my heart for the West Orange-Cove CISD Board of Trustees, staff, students, and community,” said Dr. Harris. “Your love and acceptance of my family and me over the last 10 years have been an incredible experience.”
To ensure a seamless leadership transition, the Board will begin the search for a new superintendent on March 3, 2025, with the application period closing on March 28, 2025. Once a successor is appointed, Dr. Harris will assume the role of Superintendent Emeritus, serving as a consultant until his official retirement at the end of 2025.
“We, the Board of Trustees, look forward to employing a Superintendent who will operate from strong core values, prioritize the best interests of students, teachers, and staff, and continue to enhance student opportunities to become productive citizens,” the Board stated.
Dr. Harris leaves behind a legacy of excellence, and his contributions will continue to shape the future of WOCCISD.
