The Vidor Chamber of Commerce proudly welcomed Stable-Spirit, a nonprofit organization dedicated to equine-assisted services, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its location at 295 Flamingo Street in Rose City.
Founded in 2004, Stable-Spirit is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that offers Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL), Hippotherapy, and Therapeutic Riding. The organization’s mission is to inspire positive mental, physical, and emotional health through professionally guided interactions with horses. Stable-Spirit works with individuals of all ages and abilities, including veterans, offering a path to personal growth, healing, and reflection through the unique connection between humans and horses.
“Dealing with the challenges of today can be overwhelming,” said Katie Durio, Executive Director of Stable-Spirit. “We are here to provide support, hope, and healing through the powerful presence of horses. This ribbon-cutting marks a new chapter in our service to the community.”
Many Stable-Spirit clients require financial assistance, and the organization depends on fundraisers, grants, and donations to continue offering life-changing services and care for their therapy horses. The organization also offers specialized programming for veterans, helping them navigate emotional struggles with the aid of these highly intuitive animals.
Katie Durio brings decades of experience in social work and juvenile justice to her leadership role. A retired Juvenile Probation Officer with 29 years of service, she is also a Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) and a certified Equine Specialist and Senior Equine Assisted Healthcare Instructor. Her lifelong dedication to service is reflected in her continued volunteer work with various local and state organizations.
Stable-Spirit’s long-term vision is “to provide a peaceful and inclusive community that offers hope, healing, and opportunities for individuals to achieve personal growth through interaction with horses.”
