The W.H. Stark House Welcomes Allen Lea as New Director

The W.H. Stark House is proud to announce the appointment of Allen Lea as its new Director, bringing with him a deep connection to Texas heritage and over 15 years of experience in the museum field.

A sixth-generation Texan, Lea was raised on a historic ranch in central Texas that has remained in his family for over a century. His personal history is steeped in the state’s legacy—he is a descendant of Margaret Lea, the third wife of Sam Houston, and related to Tom Lea, the acclaimed El Paso artist and writer.

Lea holds a bachelor’s degree from Baylor University and a master’s from Christie’s in London, where he specialized in museum and art management. He has since dedicated his career to preserving and interpreting history through cultural institutions across the U.S.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Lea enjoys birding, fishing, and giving back through community volunteer work, embodying a spirit of stewardship that aligns with the Stark House’s values.

As the new director, Lea will lead strategic efforts to further engage the community, enhance historical interpretation, and ensure the continued preservation of this iconic Southeast Texas landmark.
