Texans of all ages are invited to take part in Free Fishing Day on Saturday, June 7, 2025. On this special day, everyone can fish recreationally anywhere in Texas without a fishing license or endorsements. Hosted annually on the first Saturday in June, Free Fishing Day encourages newcomers and seasoned anglers alike to enjoy one of the nation’s most beloved outdoor pastimes.
“If you’ve ever been curious about fishing, this is the perfect opportunity to try it out,” said officials from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. “And if you’re already a fishing enthusiast, invite a friend or family member to join you on the water.”
In addition to Free Fishing Day, Texas State Parks offer “Free Fishing in State Parks” year-round, allowing anglers to fish without a license or stamps within state park boundaries. Just pay the standard park entry fee, bring your gear, and you’re ready to go. This initiative supports family-friendly recreation and encourages outdoor exploration across the state.
Key Details for Free Fishing in State Parks:
- No fishing license or endorsements are required within state park boundaries.
- Park entry fees still apply.
- All other fishing regulations—such as size, bag, and length limits—remain in effect.
- Anglers on man-made structures (such as piers, jetties, and docks) may only fish with pole-and-line gear and are limited to two poles per person.
- Before fishing, visitors should check with park staff to ensure they remain within designated park boundaries.
This opportunity extends to over 70 state parks across Texas, giving families and individuals the chance to experience the joys of fishing while learning about conservation, wildlife, and natural habitats.
