Imelda Thanksgiving Recovery Event Planned for Nov. 22

Imelda Thanksgiving Recovery Event will be happening this Friday, November 22, 2019, at the Orange County Convention and Expo Center beginning at 10 am until noon or until supplies run out.

This is for ORANGE COUNTY RESIDENTS ONLY. You MUST bring your ID for proof of residence.

Orange County United Way Hosting 2nd Annual Chili Cookoff Fundraiser

Orange County Receives $51,171 for Food and Shelter Programs

Orange County United Way is hosting its second annual Chili Cookoff on Thursday, November 7t, 2019,  from 11:30 a.m.- 1:30 p.m at the Dow Business Center (formerly DERA).  Last year this event was held for their Corporate Partners on Chemical Row. This year they are expanding to include ALL local businesses.

Pre-orders will be accepted by Friday, November 1, and you will pay only $7 for a bowl of chili, crackers and soft drinks or bottled water. Chili is $10 at the door.

Pre-orders will be provided by Old Orange Cafe. Delivery will be available for pre-orders of 10 or more.  Wristbands for $20 are available to taste all the chili entries and receive one bowl of chili, crackers and a drink. Participants will meet and greet partner agency representatives and have a chance to win door prizes. All chili proceeds benefit United Way of Orange County.

Chevron-Phillips Makes $100,000 Donation to United Way

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) is pledging $100,000 to the United Way offices in the southeast Texas region to provide assistance for those residents recently impacted by the floods associated with Tropical Storm Imelda. This assistance is in addition to the company’s normal philanthropic donations and will be targeted specifically for flood relief via four United Way offices: the United Way of Greater Houston, the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County, the United Way of Orange County, and the United Way of Greater Baytown & Chambers County.

“Thousands of local residents were impacted by the torrential downpours associated with Imelda, many of them in the communities where our employees live and where we operate plants vital to the local economy,” said Mark Lashier, president and CEO. “On behalf of our entire company, we are pleased to join with so many other great Houston companies to begin the process of rebuilding homes and lives.”

Orange County Receives $51,171 for Food and Shelter Programs

According to KOGT Radio, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program have awarded Orange County $51,171 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds can contact United Way of Orange County located at 1506 W. Park Ave in Orange for an application.  The deadline for applications to be received is July 22, 2019.
