The Stark Museum of Art invites you to a special event, Lunch & Look: Audubon’s Animals, on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 12 – 1 p.m. Guests are invited to bring a lunch and enjoy a slide-talk by Curator Sarah Boehme on Audubon’s “The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America.”
“During this one-hour slide-talk presentation, we will explore Audubon’s dedication to portraying the diversity of American wildlife. From the majestic American Elk to the agile Say’s Squirrel, Audubon’s goal was nothing short of monumental – to create a publication that richly depicts and describes North America’s animal kingdom,” said Boehme. “This is a great opportunity for art lovers and wildlife enthusiasts to dive into the fascinating world of John James Audubon’s work.”
The session will delve into Audubon’s ambitious vision and the collaborative efforts of his family to produce a celebrated work of art featuring portrayals of creatures such as the American Reindeer and the Yellow-Bellied Marmot.
In addition to Lunch & Look, guests are invited to explore “Reindeer Trail,” a whimsical wonderland featuring 30 original reindeer designed by talented artists, and “Spirit of Bethlehem: The Boehm Porcelain Nativity,” which includes 16 porcelain figures depicting the Christmas story.
Admission to Lunch & Look: Audubon’s Animals is free of charge and will be held in the Walter G. Riedel III Education Center at the Stark Museum of Art.
