The Stark Museum of Art invites the public to a special edition of its Lunch & Look series, honoring Orange’s own Janette Sebring Lowrey, author of the best-selling picture book of all time, The Poky Little Puppy. The event will be held on Wednesday, May 28, 2025, from Noon to 1:00 p.m. in the Walter G. Riedel III Education Center at the museum.
In this engaging presentation, Curator Sarah Boehme will explore Lowrey’s life and literary legacy, whose work helped launch the legendary Little Golden Books series. In addition to The Poky Little Puppy, Lowrey authored 15 other titles for children and young readers, leaving a lasting impact on American children’s literature.
Attendees will learn how growing up in Orange, Texas, influenced Lowrey’s storytelling and artistic vision. This program is free to attend, and participants are encouraged to bring their lunch and enjoy an afternoon of history, literature, and local pride.
