Southeast Texas Regional Planning Commission to Host Household Hazardous Waste & Scrap Tire Collection Event in Bridge City

The South East Texas Regional Planning Commission (SETRPC) invites residents across Southeast Texas to participate in its Household Hazardous Waste and Scrap Tire Collection Event on Saturday, May 17, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The event will take place in the parking lot of Bridge City Intermediate School, located at 1029 W. Roundbunch Road, Bridge City, TX.

This annual event offers a safe and responsible way for households to dispose of potentially hazardous materials and scrap tires that could otherwise harm personal health or the environment. Businesses are not eligible to participate.

“An average home can store up to 100 pounds of hazardous waste, much of which may sit for years in garages or cabinets,” said Bob Dickinson, Director of Transportation and Environmental Resources at SETRPC. “We urge all Southeast Texans to take advantage of this opportunity to dispose of these materials properly.”

Accepted Items Include:

  • Household cleaners, antifreeze, used oil, insecticides
  • Swimming pool chemicals, car batteries, and similar items

Scrap Tire Disposal Details:

  • $3.00 cash disposal fee per tire (limit 20 tires)
  • No tires over 20″ or tires on rims accepted

Paint Limitations:

  • Up to ten (10) 1-gallon cans and two (2) 5-gallon cans

Unaccepted Items:

  • Electronics, appliances, oversized tires
  • Explosives, ammunition, garbage, scrap metal
  • Mercury, smoke detectors, exit signs, medical waste, and pharmaceuticals

“Improper disposal of items like paint and batteries can lead to serious environmental consequences,” added Shanna Burke, Executive Director of SETRPC. “By participating in this event, residents can play a role in preserving both public health and the region’s air and water quality.”

This event is funded through a grant from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality.
