After a six-year closure, one of Vidor’s most beloved summer destinations is officially back! Smith Lake Water Park will reopen on Saturday, May 24 at 10:00 a.m., welcoming families, friends, and fun-seekers with its classic charm, exciting activities, and newly refreshed amenities.
Closed since 2019 due to low water levels, Smith Lake has been revitalized under the leadership of Atasha Quebedeaux, the park’s third-generation owner. Her passion for restoring the park shines through every update — from the vibrant fresh paint to the enhanced guest experience.
“I love this place. It really is like blessed land,” said Quebedeaux. “It’s all of the same things you’re used to seeing out here at Smith Lake from years ago, but it’s all been vamped and redone.”
What’s New and What’s Back:
-
Zip line, high and low dives, and volleyball courts
-
Concession stands and shaded seating areas
-
Guests may bring their own food (no alcohol or glass containers allowed)
-
Waiver required for entry – complete in advance at the Smith Lake website to save time
-
Lifeguards on duty, including former Smith Lake swimmers now helping the next generation
Longtime Vidor residents are thrilled about the reopening. Kevin Walton recalls the iconic high dives and zip line, while Lyndsey Rubero looks forward to introducing her kids to the same summer fun she enjoyed as a child. For Kylee Sanders, the experience comes full circle as her daughter returns to Smith Lake — now as a lifeguard.
