Sabine River Closure for Pipeline Installation – August 7–21, 2025

Beginning Thursday, August 7, 2025, a Vessel Traffic Service (VTS) Measure will be implemented for the Sabine River north of Shell Island, fully closing the waterway to all commercial and recreational traffic through Thursday, August 21, 2025.

The temporary closure will allow Troy Construction to install a pipeline across the waterway from Shell Island to the marsh line. During this period, no vessels will be permitted to transit through the affected area.

Safety Measures in Place:

  • Construction barges will be lit for visibility at night.
  • The entrance to the pass will be marked with piles bearing warning signage.
  • Mariners are urged to proceed with caution, operate at safe speeds in surrounding areas, and report any hazards or safety concerns directly to MSU Port Arthur.

Questions regarding the construction project should be directed to Andrew Lassere, Project Manager, Troy Construction, at alassere@thetroycompanies.com.

For status updates on the closure, concerned traffic may contact VTS Port Arthur:
