Orange County Officials Sworn In as New Year Begins

As the clock struck midnight on January 1, 2025, Orange County began the new year by welcoming newly elected and re-elected officials in a solemn and historic swearing-in ceremony.

The centerpiece of the midnight proceedings was the swearing-in of new Orange County Sheriff Bobby Smith on the steps of the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. County Judge John Gothia officiated the oath, marking a symbolic start to Sheriff Smith’s tenure.

Later that morning, a group of officials gathered at the courthouse to take their oaths of office. Among those sworn in were:

  • Precinct 1 Constable Lannie Claybar

  • District Attorney Krispen Walker-Winfree (newly elected)

  • Tax Assessor-Collector Octavia Guzman (newly elected)

  • Precinct 3 Commissioner Kirk Roccaforte

The day also included judicial proceedings, with 128th District Judge Courtney Arkeen taking her oath of office from 260th District Judge Steve Parkhurst. Judge Arkeen later performed the swearing-in of Rodney Townsend as the new County Court at Law No. 2 Judge.

The ceremonies highlighted the dedication of Orange County’s leadership as they prepare to serve their community in 2025 and beyond.
