Orange Celebrates a Decade of Depot Day with Community Festivities

in Local Roundup

The historic Southern Pacific Depot in Orange has come a long way since the Friends of the Orange Depot began its restoration in January 2014. This year marks the tenth anniversary of those efforts, and the community is set to celebrate in style on Saturday, May 4, 2024, with the annual Depot Day festivities.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Orange Train Depot Museum at 1210 Green Avenue will be abuzz with activities for all ages. The event, which doubles as a fundraiser, is free for all attendees, though there is a nominal charge for some of the activities-$1 each, or a bundle of six for $5.

Children can look forward to a variety of fun attractions, including pony rides, a trackless train, and a bronco ride. The balloon twister, a crowd favorite, will make a return this year. The entertainment lineup also includes performances by the Orange Community Players and the Orange Blossom Dancers, ensuring a lively atmosphere throughout the day.

Inside the depot, model train enthusiasts will be treated to an elaborate display. Additionally, a special memory game sponsored by the Stark Museum of Art will be held under the main tent, adding an educational twist to the day’s festivities.

The event will also feature a large raffle with enticing prizes, such as an electric train. A variety of food vendors will be available on the grounds, alongside additional vendors inside the depot.

As the sun sets, the celebration will continue with the Depot Street Dance from 6 to 8 p.m. DJ Chas White with Real Stage will spin a diverse mix of music, from rock to zydeco, to keep guests dancing. Free State Cellars Winery will be on site, along with other food vendors, to provide refreshments. A modest $5 donation per couple is requested for entry to the dance. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs to enjoy the evening comfortably.
