LSCO Holds Beam Tipping Ceremony for Academic Center

in Schools

Lamar State College Orange (LSCO) celebrates with a Beam Topping Ceremony last week for its new, state-of-the-art Academic Center. The $38 million building will become the biggest space on the LSCO campus, with a 2-story building occupying 54,821 square feet. Once complete, the Academic Center will include classrooms, a student lounge, lab space, faculty offices, and an IT department.

The 87th Legislative session approved the funding of $38 million dollars with Senate Bill 52 back in October of 2021. The building will replace the current Academic Center, which is one of the oldest buildings on campus, built in 1908. A Public Art element will be installed in front of the building titled “We Are the Light.”

Members of the community, elected and city officials, staff, faculty, students, and Durotech contractors gathered to celebrate and sign their name on the beam. Completion of the Academic Center is expected in the Fall of 2024.
