How to Use Orange County Government Services During Disaster Declaration Period

Due to the COVID-19 Coronavirus pandemic and the rapidly evolving situation Orange County’s main priority is the health, safety and wellbeing of the citizens and employees. Orange County Offices will remain open but must accommodate the social distancing recommendation by having no more than 10 people in a specified location and seeking to maintain at least 6 feet of separation between individuals.

Citizens are urged to use online services, email or phones to contact County offices. These numbers and email addresses can be found on our website www.co.orange.tx.us

Below are three of the main county offices that work with the public and their requirements to limit exposure to citizens and the employees:

Orange County Tax Office, Karen Fisher Tax Assessor-Collector

The Tax Office will only be open to the public for TITLE WORK ONLY. Customers are asked to call (409-882-7971) before coming to the tax office to ensure they have all the necessary paperwork to complete their transactions. A maximum of 3 customers will be allowed in the office at one time.

Tax payments and motor vehicle registration will be processed as follows:

Property Taxes:

Property tax payments can be made with a credit/debit card or E-check via online (www.co.orange.tx.us/taxoffice), or phone (866-549-1010 bureau code 1122333) Payments made with check, cashier’s check or money order can be left at our drop box outside of the Administration Building or mailed to P.O. Box 1568 Orange, TX 77631. Postmark dates will be honored as pay date.

Motor Vehicle Registration/Temporary Permits:

Vehicle Registration can be renewed online (www.txdmv.gov). Also, temporary registration can be purchased from the website. Please print out all receipts and keep in your vehicle.

Orange County District Clerk, Vickie Edgerly

Effective immediately, the District Clerk’s Office will remain open BUT conduct business by e-mail, phone, and regular mail only. This office can perform essential duties electronically and telephonically and accept credit and debit as forms of payment.

All jury trials have been suspended through the end of April. You will be notified at a later date to reschedule your jury service date.

Orange County Clerk’s Office, Brandy Robertson

The County Clerk’s Office is requesting all business to be done by phone (409-882-7055), fax (409-882-7012), email (countyclerk@co.orange.tx.us), regular mail (801 W Division, Orange Tx 77630) or online (www.co.orange.tx.us)

Birth and death certificates can be requested by mail. Copies can be requested through the mail or email. Please call the office for assistance.

Most of County Clerk’s records (real property, civil, probate, and misdemeanors) are online. Citizens are always urged to call the office for help navigating the website. Researchers are requested to use the website as we are restricting researching in our office at this time.

For Marriage License please contact the office and you will receive an appointment time to come in to apply.

For anyone that has received court notice, please contact our office for direction to the correct court coordinator for information regarding that court.

District Attorney’s Office, John Kimbrough, D.A.

The District Attorney’s Office will remain open to the public for business, but physical access to the office will be by appointment only. Citizens are asked to call (409) 883-6764 or email mday@co.orange.tx.us with any questions or to schedule an appointment. Prosecutors will also continue to be available to law enforcement for arrest warrants 24/7.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office and Jail

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office has canceled all inmate visitation in the Orange County Jail to help eliminate exposure. Attorney visits are still allowed. Outside inmate work crews have been canceled and inmates will remain in the jail. The Orange County Judges and the Sheriff and his staff are working together to maintain a safe environment for employees and inmates.

The County Office will continue operating at their normal business hours as of now and will monitor the situation and adjust as needed. Citizens are encouraged to phone and email departments to minimize the walk-in traffic to the offices. Phone numbers and emails can be found on the Orange County website.
