Demolition has begun on nine buildings within the Sabine Park Apartment Complex. After conducting a health and welfare inspection of the buildings and finding the units were uninhabitable and not structurally sound for human occupancy, City of Orange representatives reached out to the owners of the private complex to address the issues with no response.
As a result, evidence of a multitude of code violations and substandard living conditions was presented in Orange Municipal Court. Judge Bearden deemed the units substandard and, in an effort to protect public health and safety, ordered the demolition of the affected buildings with the cost to be covered by the owners of the complex.
During the demolition, every effort is being made to preserve the trees on the property.
