City of Vidor to Vote on Renaming Historic Conn Park Amid Ongoing Development

The City of Vidor is preparing to vote on an official new name for Conn Park, a local landmark with deep historical roots and a growing future as a hub for community events and recreation.

Originally established through a generous donation in the early 1980s by C.W. Conn and his wife, Dorothy Anne, the park began with the gift of land and a swimming pool to the Vidor Chamber of Commerce and the city. Their vision: a safe and vibrant space for neighborhood children. While repeated flooding delayed the park’s progress over the years, city officials emphasize that the mission to realize Conn Park has never wavered.

Recent developments — including the construction of a new pavilion, modern restrooms, and electrical outlets to support festivals and events — have transformed the park into a community destination. The move to rename the park is part of an effort to differentiate it from the nearby baseball and softball complex currently under development, and to reflect the city’s investment in enhancing the space for civic and recreational use.

“Over the past two decades, we’ve seen Conn Park evolve into more than just a neighborhood greenspace,” said city officials. “This is about honoring its history while looking toward its future.”

City leaders have proposed five potential new names for the park:

  • Conn Park Event Complex
  • Conn Recreational Venue
  • Conn Recreational Park
  • Conn Recreational & Civic District
  • Conn Recreational Center

The official vote is expected in the coming weeks, and residents are encouraged to follow updates from City Hall for details on the renaming process.
