Are you ready for hurricane season?  Hurricane seasons runs from June 1 – November 31. With the larger number of hurricanes that have impacted Southeast Texas since Hurricane Rita in 2005, it pays to be prepared.

The Orange County Local Emergency Planning Committee has put together a comprehensive list of things you should do to be prepared.

Caroline Mazzola Hennigan won the At-Large Position 5 by beating Bill Mello, who has been on the council for nine years. Hennigan ended up with 333 votes, or 71.61 percent, compared to Mello with 132 votes, or 28.39 percent.

For the Single-Member District 4 council seat, Mary McKenna beat Annette Pernell. McKenna had 141 votes, or 67.16 percent, with Pernell getting 68 votes, or 32.54 percent.

Learn to Carve Wood at Stark Museum of Art

“Intro to Wood Carving,” will be offered as an adult workshop at the Stark Museum of Art in Orange.

The three-night workshop will be conducted by Richard Spinney, a local artist who has been woodcarving for four decades.

The workshop will be on Aug. 6, 13 and 20. Cost is $35, which covers the wood and safety materials. There’s also a $70 tool fee that will provide novice carvers with a high-quality carving blade and three gouges that will be theirs to keep after the workshop.
