28th Annual Cops and Kids Picnic Scheduled for June 7

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office 28th Annual Cops and Kids Picnic is scheduled for June 7, 2024, from 10 AM – 2 PM at Claiborne West Park, located off of Interstate 10 12 miles west of Orange.

The event will include free food and rides, picnic fun games, as well as visits from members of emergency services. The menu includes hotdogs, chips, drinks, and watermelons.

New Wayfinding Signage Installed in Orange

in Government

The City of Orange, in partnership with the Stark Foundation, has unveiled new wayfinding signage across our community. Wayfinding signage is instrumental in guiding individuals to various destinations, from landmarks to local hotspots. This initiative marks another step forward in our ongoing efforts to enhance Orange’s beauty and functionality.

New Aldermen Take Office in West Orange

in Government

At the latest City Council Meeting,  three uncontested Alderman took their oaths of office. The new Aldermen are Lanie Brown, Jay Odom, and Mike Shugart. Presentations of Corticate of Election was also given to those officials.

Mayor Pro-Tem Meritta Kennedy was elected to remain as such by the Mayor and Council.

Appointments by the Mayor included:

  • City Attorney Chris Levins ( not present)
  • City Judge Carl Thibodeaux
  • Alternate Judge Jay Odom
  • Fire Chief David Roberts
  • Assistant Chief Simmie Gibson.
