Beautiful - The Carole King Musical Coming to Lutcher Theater

Producers Paul Blake and Sony/ATV Music Publishing announce that the Tony and Grammy Award-winning Broadway hit, Beautiful-The Carole King Musical, about the early life and career of the legendary and groundbreaking singer/songwriter, will make its Orange, Texas premiere at Lutcher Theater for the Performing Arts on Thursday, March 19, 2020, at 7 pm for 1 performance only. To purchase tickets, visit Lutcher.org, call 409-886-5535 or visit the Lutcher Theater Box Office at 707 Main Avenue in Orange, Tx. Ticket prices start at $65.

“Carole King might be a native New Yorker, but her story of struggle and triumph is as universal as they come – and her music is loved the world over,” producer Paul Blake said. “I am thrilled that Beautiful continues to delight and entertain audiences around the globe, in England, Japan, and Australia, and that we are entering our fourth amazing year of touring the U.S. We are so grateful that over five million audience members have been entertained by our celebration of Carole’s story and her timeless music.”

Long before she was Carole King, chart-topping music legend, she was Carol Klein, Brooklyn girl with passion and chutzpah. She fought her way into the record business as a teenager and, by the time she reached her twenties, had the husband of her dreams and a flourishing career writing hits for the biggest acts in rock `n’ roll. But it wasn’t until her personal life began to crack that she finally managed to find her true voice. Beautiful tells the inspiring true story of King’s remarkable rise to stardom, from being part of a hit songwriting team with her husband Gerry Goffin, to her relationship with fellow writers and best friends Cynthia Weil and Barry Mann, to becoming one of the most successful solo acts in popular music history. Along the way, she made more than beautiful music, she wrote the soundtrack to a generation. Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil, including “I Feel The Earth Move,” “One Fine Day,” “(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman,” “You’ve Got A Friend” and the title song.

With a book by Tony® and Academy® Award-nominee Douglas McGrath, direction by Marc Bruni and choreography by Josh Prince, Beautiful features a stunning array of beloved songs written by Gerry Goffin/Carole King and Barry Mann/Cynthia Weil. The show opened on Broadway at the Stephen Sondheim Theatre (125 West 43 Street) in January 2014, where it has since broken all box office records and recently became the highest-grossing production in the Theatre’s history.

The Original Broadway Cast Recording of Beautiful – The Carole King Musical (Ghostlight Records) won the 2015 Grammy Award for Best Musical Theater Album and is available on CD, digitally, and on vinyl. Beautiful launched its first US National Tour in September 2015 and is also currently playing internationally, with productions in Japan, Australia and touring the UK.

Shangri La Gardens and KOCB Bring the Recycling Focus to the 25th Annual Trash-Off

Shangri La Gardens and KOCB Bring the Recycling Focus to the 25th Annual Trash-Off

Building community partnerships across Orange County to improve our local environment and reduce litter is what the 25th Annual Trash-Off is all about. On Saturday, February 22, Keep Orange County Beautiful collaborated with Shangri la Gardens to add recycling to the 2020 Trash-Off. Superior Tire and Service of Orange and D&D Scrap of Bridge City collected abandoned tires and scrap metal, at no charge to county residents.  New this year was a chance for Trash-Off teams to collect plastic bottles and aluminum drink cans in blue Recyclops bags for recycling.

Over 280 tires were collected during the 5-hour event at the Orange Boat Ramp.   “Big Picture” Mike Hughes from Superior Tire and Service said, “Working together we filled the Superior box- truck twice and a full load in the pick-up truck!”  Tire recycling is paid for through a partnership with SE Texas Resource Conservation and Development using enforcement funds from the Texas Commission for Environmental Quality (TCEQ).

D&D Scrap from Bridge City also collected scrap metal during this event.  “As loads of tires with rims came in, we separated them onto a separate trailer so we could remove the metal before sending the tires on to Superior”, said Chris Dollins co-owner of D&D.  When a load came in, the crew pulled off the tires and metal first, then sent the vehicles on down to the dumpster to drop trash bags from the Trash-Off. “This year we added new volunteer partners from Dow Chemical”, said KOCB Chair Deborah Bednar, “We could not have done this without them”. The event was a huge success!

The final stop for the clean up was to turn in the Recyclops bags.  Each Trash-Off team was given 2-3 of the blue bags and asked to fill them with plastic bottles and aluminum drink cans. “By separating those items out of the trash mix, we were able to send them with Recyclops to Houston on their next recycling run, rather than to the landfill”, said Katie Krantz, the Education Director of Shangri La Gardens.

This is the first tire recycling KOCB has sponsored in 2020.  One-thousand tires and over 10,000 lbs. of scrap metal were collected and recycled in Orange County in 2019.   KOCB will sponsor additional recycling events during the year.
