Orange County Economic Development Corporation Launches New Website

The Orange County Economic Development Corporation has launched a new version of its website, www.orangecountyedc.com. The new site features a modern design, improved functionality, and easy access to information allowing visitors to make informed decisions about Orange County and our economy.

The improved site includes many highly utilized applications such as the site database and demographics portal, and now includes an interactive map, useful links, and a government community calendar.

“The final product is representative of everyone’s needs. The site selector, the business owner and the Orange County citizen are all represented in the information included on the new site.” said Jessica Hill, Executive Director.

The Orange County EDC chose Marketing Alliance to facilitate the redesign and tell the story of Orange County’s economic opportunities. Marketing Alliance specializes in economic development websites and has developed a portfolio of more than 250 U.S. communities.

Chevron-Phillips Makes $100,000 Donation to United Way

Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP (Chevron Phillips Chemical) is pledging $100,000 to the United Way offices in the southeast Texas region to provide assistance for those residents recently impacted by the floods associated with Tropical Storm Imelda. This assistance is in addition to the company’s normal philanthropic donations and will be targeted specifically for flood relief via four United Way offices: the United Way of Greater Houston, the United Way of Mid & South Jefferson County, the United Way of Orange County, and the United Way of Greater Baytown & Chambers County.

“Thousands of local residents were impacted by the torrential downpours associated with Imelda, many of them in the communities where our employees live and where we operate plants vital to the local economy,” said Mark Lashier, president and CEO. “On behalf of our entire company, we are pleased to join with so many other great Houston companies to begin the process of rebuilding homes and lives.”

Lion Elastomers Opens at Former Firestone Site

The City of Orange would like to welcome Lion Elastomers at the former Firestone site, located at 5713 FM 1006.

Lion Elastomers previously announced the purchase of an Orange, Texas production site owned and operated by Firestone Polymers. The plant manufactures polybutadiene and styrene-butadiene copolymers, produced under the Stereon™, Diene™, and Duradene™ trade names. These products are complementary to Lion’s current portfolio and will further strengthen Lion’s ability to support the synthetic rubber industry.

This purchase marks Lion’s second strategic acquisition in less than five years and is in line with Lion’s initiative to expand its business and provide greater value enhancement to its customers.

New Orange City Hall Grand Opening Held

A grand opening and ribbon-cutting ceremony were held on Thursday, September 12, 2019, in celebration of the relocation of Orange City Hall.

A resolution was passed by the Orange City Council to purchase First Financial Bank on January 12, 2016. After the new construction of First Financial Bank was completed, the City of Orange began making necessary updates to the building that would soon house City Hall. On Monday, August 19, 2019, Orange City Hall officially opened for business at 812 N. 16th Street. City Hall is home to multiple offices including City Manager, City Secretary, Economic Development, Finance, Customer Service (water payments), Personnel, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Thursday’s grand opening celebration included comments by Mayor Larry Spears Jr., Mayor Pro-Tem Patrick Pullen, Interim City Manager Kelvin Knauf, The Honorable Mayor Jimmy Sims, and Lanie Brown, Regional Director of Community Relations for Congressman Brian Babin.
