Stark Museum of Art Offers Summer Teacher Workshops

The Stark Museum of Art is committed to offering relevant art-based Continuing Professional Education for teachers. Teacher workshops are offered during the school year and summer break to provide art teachers and K-12 teachers the opportunity to engage with art techniques and practices, learn new instruction methods, and connect curriculum with the collection and exhibitions at the Museum.

Teacher Workshops are always FREE for teachers in Region 5, Texas, and Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.

Workshop registration begins Friday, May 13th @ 9:00 a.m.  Please see the full complement of workshops below.

OCP 2022 Young People’s Theater Workshop Dates Announced

The Orange Community Players (OCP) Young People’s Theater Workshop is a summer program that gives local youth the opportunity to learn about and experience performing Aarts firsthand. Students will begin the program with a week of theatrical related workshops before beginning work on this year’s production, which is still to be named. Students will work on stage and behind the scenes acting, dancing, singing, and building sets and props for their final performances for the public.

Enrollment in the workshop is limited to 60 students. Registration dates are May 2-3, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the administrative offices of the First United Methodist Church of Orange at 506 N. 6th St. in Orange. The registration fee is $60 and is open for youth aged 6-18.

The Theater Workshop will be on June 1. 2. 3. and6, 2022. Auditions will be held on June 7 and rehearsal will begin on June 8. Dress rehearsal will be on June 23 and the final performances will be presented on June 24-25, 2022, with a matinee on June 26 with the cleanup and cast party following the show.

Workshop hours will be Monday – Friday evening from 5:30 PM to 8 PM in the education building of the First United Methodist Church. The full schedule will be available at registration. Actors and actresses will need to supply their costumes. Due to limited enrollment, there will be no pre-registration.

Stark Museum of Art Announces Winners of 8th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition

Stark Museum of Art is pleased to announce this year’s selected artists and award winners for the Stark Museum of Art’s 8th annual Juried Student Art Exhibition. There were 547 entries submitted, and “this year brought our most diverse range of entries ever and also the most difficult rounds of jurying yet,” commented Jennifer Dickinson, Director, Education. Juxtaposed: 2022 This juried Student Art Exhibition will be on view from March 16 – May 14, 2022.

Carlee Dupuy, a 12th grader from  Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School, is the designer of the promotional banner for the event, published above. Her work is titled, Green on Blue, On Green.

An Office and a Gentleman Coming to Lutcher Theater March 27

An Officer And A Gentleman, based on the Oscar-winning film starring Richard Gere and Debra Winger, is a breathtaking production that celebrates triumph over adversity and includes one of the most iconic and romantic endings ever portrayed on screen. It is being performed at the Lutcher Theater on Sunday, March 27, 2022, at 7 PM.

Featuring the Grammy Award-winning, #1 hit single Up Where We Belong, and a score based on the 1980’s catalog of music that gave voice to a generation, the live stage production is a new adaptation by multiple Tony Awards nominee Dick Scanlan (Thoroughly Modern Millie, Everyday Rapture), based on the original screenplay by Douglas Day Stewart. The musical is directed by Scanlan with choreography by Patricia Wilcox (Motown, A Night with Janis Joplin).

Zack Mayo’s got smarts and a body built for US Navy pilot boot camp, but he also has too much swagger. until he meets a drill sergeant who’s determined to drill his arrogance out of him. Zack finds comfort in the arms of a local factory girl. But it isn’t until tragedy befalls a fellow candidate that Zack learns the importance of love and friendship, and finds the courage to be his best self and win the heart of the woman he loves. Stark Art Museum to Offer Lunch and Look at Home Program

Take a lunch break and make a virtual visit to the Stark Museum of Art’s brand-new special exhibition Enlarging the View: Contemporary Photography & Connections on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at Noon (CDT).

Join Curator Sarah E. Boehme in an exploration of the exhibition, its background, and the works of art. Advanced registration is required for this FREE program. Registration will close on Thursday, March 24, 2022, at 9:00 a.m. (CDT).
