In recognition of National Yoga Awareness Month, Shangri La Botanical Gardens is spotlighting their free Wellness Wednesday yoga class. This weekly event provides community members with an opportunity to reconnect with their mind and body, all while enjoying the serene garden setting. This free, guided yoga class for adults is offered each Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. Participants may check in starting at 10 a.m. Admission to Wellness Wednesdays is free of charge.
Every Wednesday morning, participants gather at Shangri La Gardens to engage in a rejuvenating yoga class held in nature. These classes are led by local instructors, including Lauren Cowart, owner and founder at Yoga Vibe TX Studio & School in Orange. Cowart and other yoga instructors bring both experience and a passion for wellness to this series.
“This class provides an opportunity to connect with nature in this beautiful space. Each practice is breath-based, and we meditate while immersing ourselves in this atmosphere. It’s like magic. In every class, you can count on a connection to nature, your breath, movement, and meditation,” said Cowart. “We hear the symphony of nature, and our breath becomes part of that symphony to remind us we are all connected. At the end of each practice, you’ll be renewed and revitalized. It’s impossible to come here and not feel renewed and reconnected.”
Adults of all ages and fitness levels are invited to join the Wellness Wednesday yoga class at Shangri La Gardens. Participants should bring their own yoga mat. During this experience, participants can expect to learn unique connections within the body to increase muscle elasticity, loosen joints, and gain flexibility. The class takes place outdoors. In the event of inclement weather, indoor accommodations will be made available.
“All are welcome to join – the practice is whatever you need it to be for your body. Our teachers are highly trained to we can help people modify as much as needed. It’s accessible, and we have props that are here to help support everyone. Anyone who is reaching for their body and mind to have a break, come to yoga because you’ll have that peace that you’re yearning for,” said Cowart.
Wellness Wednesdays are offered as part of Shangri La Gardens’ broader commitment to community wellness and environmental connection. During Wellness Wednesdays, visitors are also encouraged to enjoy self-guided wellness experiences such as garden strolls and meditation. Visitors are encouraged to dress comfortably, wear walking shoes, and bring water to stay hydrated throughout their wellness experience.
