What lies beneath Texas’ highways may surprise you. Join the Stark Museum of Art for a compelling, one-hour lecture titled “Beyond the Road,” presented by Rebekah Dobrasko, Cultural Resource Director for the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Environmental Affairs Division. The lecture will take place on Monday, September 30, from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. in the Walter G. Riedel III Education Center, and admission is free.
Dobrasko will explore the environmental and historical preservation efforts woven into TxDOT’s planning and infrastructure projects. From uncovering ancient archeological sites and limestone caves in Central Texas to preserving iconic structures like the Rainbow Bridge, this talk will shed light on how TxDOT is not just building roads—but also protecting Texas’ past.
The event will also highlight the creation of the “A Time Before Texas” website and traveling exhibit, now on display in the museum’s Community Art Gallery. This engaging presentation is ideal for history buffs, transportation enthusiasts, educators, and anyone curious about how our roadways intersect with culture and conservation.
Don’t miss this chance to discover the stories beneath your feet.
