The 6th Annual Special Angels Rodeo will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2019, at the T2 Arena & Event Center. 3810 Old Peveto Road in Orange, Registration will open at 9:00 am and opening ceremonies will kick off at 10:00 am.
This event plays host to more than 300 special needs individuals of all ages throughout East and Southeast Texas and Southwest Louisiana. The goal of the program is to provide a one-of-a-kind experience that allows participants to be a cowboy or cowgirl for a day. Their Special Angels are the stars of the show on rodeo day, and all of their events and activities are designed and planned around them. Each of the activities can be adapted to meet the needs of all participants.
The rodeo is overseen by a team of highly qualified individuals from many different walks of life. Physical therapists, nurses, and emergency medical personnel are always on-site during the event. Law enforcement officers, including uniformed personnel and plainclothes officers, help ensure that everyone is safe throughout the day.
Several area organizations, including area Go Texan committees, spend the day around a village of barbeque pits cooking and serving great food. There are also several other selections, donated by various area restaurants, that are not cooked on the pits. Carnival games, service vendors, bounce houses, mechanical bull, petting zoo, and other activities round out the day.
There is no charge for participants and their families to take part. Each participant will walk away with a t-shirt, backpack, gold medal, cowboy hat, bandana, and more. Food for participants, families, and volunteers will be offered free of charge.
They are still accepting registrations for participants and volunteers. Registration forms can be found on their website, https://www.specialangelsrodeo.org/ . Please email, fax, or deliver registration forms to Farmer’s Mercantile. On-site registration will be available Saturday morning for those who can’t get the paperwork turned in ahead of time.
