Orange County Receives $51,171 for Food and Shelter Programs

According to KOGT Radio, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS)/Federal Management Agency under the Emergency Food and Shelter National Board Program have awarded Orange County $51,171 in federal funds to supplement emergency food and shelter programs in the county.

Public or private voluntary agencies interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds can contact United Way of Orange County located at 1506 W. Park Ave in Orange for an application.  The deadline for applications to be received is July 22, 2019.

Coloring for Adults Offered at Orange Public Library

Coloring for Adults  is being offered free of charge at the Orange Public Library to anyone ages 17 and up who would like to attend.

The library requests that no children be in the coloring room; however, kids over the age of 12 are welcome to enjoy the Library while adults color their cares away.

Coloring sheets and colored pencils/pens will be provided for use, but feel free to bring your own. Please bring a  brown bag lunch. The Library will have water, coffee, and cookies.

As reported by Orange County Health Inspector James Scales in his July 2019 health inspection report, he gave a low score of 81 to the Exxon Food Mart at 7120 We. Interstate 10 in McLewis for mold in the drink dispensers and no handwashing sink in the kitchen.

Perfect scores went to The Star and Crescent Moon Cafe in Shangri La in Orange,  Red Wagon Cafe in Vidor, Loving Start Daycare in Vidor, and Early Learning Child Care in Vidor.

WOCCISD Summer Programs for Children

Mustang Read and Roll Book Bus

West Orange – Cove CISD Child Nutrition Services is providing breakfast and lunch for free Monday through Thursday to all children 18 and under through the Summer Feeding Program. Meals are available at WOS Elementary through August 8. Breakfast is served from 8 – 8:30 a.m. and lunch is served from 11 a.m. to noon. Meals are served regardless of enrollment and financial status.

Free lunch and books are also available for students through the Mustang Read and Roll Book Bus program. The Mustang Blue Activity Bus stops for lunch service and book time from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on dedicated weekdays at these locations:

Monday – Navy Park, 415 Morrell Blvd.
Tuesday – Sunset Park, 55 E. Sunset Dr.
Wednesday – Sabine Park, 111 Pine Avenue
Thursday – Ridgemont Park, 3505 Ridgemont
The Mustang Read and Roll Book program will operate through August 1.
