Mandatory Evac Issued for Orange County Nursing Homes - Voluntary Evac for Others

The City of Orange Office of Emergency Management continues to closely monitor both tropical systems that are approaching the Gulf of Mexico. The US National Weather Service Lake Charles Louisiana currently has low to medium confidence in the track and intensity of both systems.

Marco updates:
Marco continues to weaken and is not expected to cause any weather problems in our region today or tomorrow.

Laura updates:
Laura is expected to make landfall between southeast Texas and south-central Louisiana as a category 2 hurricane late Wednesday or early Thursday. Here are the expected weather impacts from Laura:

  • Winds: Hurricane-force winds will be possible across the region starting late Wednesday and continuing Thursday.
  • Storm Surge: At the coast, water could be over 10 feet above ground level. Depending on where Laura makes landfall, storm surge can back up rivers and bayous and flood over 30 miles inland.
  • Rainfall: Depending on where the rain bands form, 5 to 10 inches with locally 15 inches will be possible starting Wednesday into Thursday.
  • Tornadoes: Tornadoes will be possible in the eyewall as the hurricane approaches the coast, as well as outer rain bands.

Citizens are encouraged to continue monitoring local media sites such as weather.gov/lakecharles and official social media outlets for current information.

Southeast Texas Watching Tropical Depression 14

 Tropical depression 14 has formed in the central Caribbean Sea Thursday morning. The system is expected to become a tropical storm later today then track to the Yucatan Peninsula Saturday before re-emerging in the Gulf of Mexico on Sunday.

Beyond Sunday, uncertainty is high regarding the track and intensity forecast. Any possible impacts to South-Central Texas would occur during the middle part of next week.

The forecast will be refined through the weekend as confidence increases.

The Bridge City Chamber of Commerce has named Fresh Prep, LLC, as the Business of the Month for May. FreshPrep is located at 2467 W Roundbunch Suite A, Orange. Owner Carrie Richard and her staff are making great food and making us all think a little more healthy.

Fresh Prep provides individual purchased meals as well as a whole week’s worth of food, Customers can choose from their weekly menu that changes every week. Food is prepared every Tuesday and payment is required before food is cooked.

LCMCISD Releases New Home Football Game Ticket Plan

Little Cypress Mauriceville has released a new home football game ticket plan.

The highlights of the plan are below.

All season tickets will be suspended for the 2020 season. Season tickets will be reinstated for the 2021 season with the same seating chart from the 2019 season with season ticket holders given the option to renew the same seats they had in 2019. There were 450 season tickets issued for the 2019 season.

  • Battlin’ Bear Stadium will be 100% general admission and be marked according to UIL and Orange County guidelines. Seating will be on every other row and spectators will be responsible
    for social distancing themselves from other groups. Families should not sit in groups larger than ten.
  • The LCM Honey Bears and Battlin’ Bear Band will be moved to seating on the track’s north end zone to free up more seating for spectators and allow for more spacing within their groups.
  • Bands and drill teams from visiting schools will not travel to Battlin’ Bear Stadium for the district games for the 2020 season.
  • No standing room only tickets will be sold.
  • There will be no pass gate for JH/MS /9/JV football players and cheerleaders to enter. All subvarsities must have a ticket to enter the game. This is necessary for capacity limitations.

COVID Testing Offered Wednesday and Thursday in Orange

Orange County will be offering a Mobile COVID-19 Testing site this Wednesday, August 19, Thursday, August 20, and Friday, August 21 at the Orange County Convention & Expo Center located at 11475 FM 1442 in Orange, from 8 am -4 pm.

It will be a drive-through testing site and you do not need an appointment to receive the testing.
